What Are We Doing With The Gap?

Sandy, a regular reader from Washington State, commented about this today:

I think it is a human trait to ask the question "How long?" whether or not we are facing the life-threatening issues of cancer... not to minimize that event by any means, but in my 60+ years I have faced many circumstances where I've asked: How long? How long before the dentist can see me? How long before this second child arrives? How long will the plane be delayed that is taking me to ..... and perhaps the lesson I've learned, and pass on to those who care to consider it, is that in the "waiting" are we living? What are we doing with the gap?

I've asked Sandy to write more about this if she would. Those of you who read my other daily blog, www.multiplemyelomablog.com, understand having cancer is all about "watching and waiting." The art myeloma patients try to practice is not to simply watch and wait for their cancer to move forward, which it inevitably does. No, the art in in the living! It is flawed thinking to believe everything will be alright after the chemotherapy is over, or after the test results are negative. Because like Sandy writes, we are all always waiting for something. What are you doing with the gap?
Feel good and keep smiling! Pat
